On November 19, 2023, Temple Shaaray Tefila, hosted a Day of Education, Service, and Mobilization in partnership with SCRIC, Manhattan Together, and other NYC faith-based institutions. Attendees heard from speakers: Ruth Messinger, Global Ambassador for American Jewish World Service, City Council Member Gale Brewer, State Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal, and Activist Power Malu of Artists-Athletes-Activists to learn about the current situation confronting asylum seekers in NYC. Attendees engaged in direct service, sorting donated clothing, packing shelf-stable food, and making bagged lunches. Attendees participated in an introductory training to help migrants obtain work permits led by Noah Habeeb of the Ark Immigration Clinic at Congregation Beit Simchat Torah. The afternoon evening concluded with an Interfaith Thanksgiving Service.
